LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - Nov. 9, 2015 - Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a world-leading technology and services company dedicated to the resourceful use of energy and water, announced today that it is a founding member of the Austrian Intelligent Solutions Interoperability Coalition (AISIC). The coalition's objective is to enable the consistent technical implementation of smart grid technologies over Internet Protocol (IP)-based networks, which leverage IEEE-standard communication technologies. Itron, Kaspch BusinessCom and Cisco are founding members of AISIC, which will be led and administered by Kapsch.
The coalition will ensure technical interoperability of end devices with field area network hardware and headend systems at the application layer through the creation and maintenance of technical interoperability profiles. The interoperability profiles will be made available to any party, not just coalition members, for a nominal, non-prohibitive fee. To ensure interoperability, the coalition will also develop a certification process to be performed and verified by an independent test body.
'Itron has long held the belief that interoperability and open standards will be the key to smart grid success. That is why we are proud to be a founding member of the Austrian Intelligent Solutions Interoperability Coalition, which will help ensure interoperability of smart grid devices and help utilities in Austria experience the full potential of the smart grid,' said Pieter Coetzee, senior director, business development, EMEA at Itron.
