Ixia (Nasdaq: XXIA), a leading provider of network testing, visibility, and security solutions, today announced that the University of Texas at Austin (UT) has chosen Ixia to deliver a security and visibility architecture that is reliable, fast and secure, while maximizing return on IT investment.

The University of Texas at Austin is a bold, ambitious leader, ranked among the biggest research universities in the country. UT Austin is home to more than 51,000 students and 3,000 teaching faculty who generate massive volumes of application traffic that poses significant security and cost-efficiency challenges. UT needed an IT architecture that offered flexibility and scalability to support this traffic, as well as advanced monitoring tools for greater visibility.

“We were trying to stay ahead of steadily increasing traffic volumes, coupled with the growing need for robust digital security and network visibility,” stated Cam Beasley, Chief Information Security Officer at UT. “Ixia’s solutions outperformed the competitors we reviewed, offering an industry leading GUI, dynamic filtering, and improved network responsiveness that will allow the Information Security Office to assure the information security of UT and the existence of a safe computing environment in which the university community can teach, learn, and conduct research.”

After completing a competitive review, UT Austin selected Ixia’s Net Tool Optimizer NTO 7300 for end-to-end network visibility and security across their physical networks. Additionally, the 7300’s advanced feature module (AFM) optimizes monitored network traffic, so that it includes only the most relevant information needed for analysis. As a result, it improves security and performance, while providing rapid scalability and maximizing control.

In addition, the University selected Ixia’s Application and Threat Intelligence Processor (ATIP) to classify the traffic generated by social media applications including Netflix, Facebook, and Hulu, which represented a large portion of the University’s traffic volume. Using Ixia’s ATIP to filter and drop social media traffic will enable UT to reduce the existing burden on its security services, saving significant capital cost and optimizing their security services investment. The ATIP also features an advanced GUI that provides UT with exceptional management, reporting accuracy, and ease-of-use.

UT also chose the flexible and highly scalable Ixia Flex Taps to support traffic visibility into 10G and 100G networks, while conserving costly rack space and improving optical signal reliability. By leveraging a high-density design and incorporating an advanced fiber-optic technology, Ixia Flex Taps deliver a security and visibility architecture that supports UT’s evolving needs.
