JLT Specialty Insurance Services Inc. (JLT Specialty USA), a U.S. subsidiary of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc. (JLT), one of the world’s leading specialty-focused providers of insurance, reinsurance and employee benefits related advice, brokerage and associated services, is pleased to announce the appointment of William (“Bill”) Buchan as Senior Vice President of its Construction Practice.

Buchan brings to JLT Specialty USA nearly two decades of experience in construction risk management, risk finance and loss control, business continuity and disaster recovery and environmental resources management. In this role Buchan will help lead and advance the development and strategy related to all facets of the Construction Practice, as well as provide counsel to other related key specialty areas. Buchan joins Cynthia Evanko Olinger, PhD, who was previously announced as Senior Vice President & Construction Professional Liability Leader.

“Bill is an excellent talent who will bring our clients a wealth of knowledge and insights related to construction risk management services,” said Mike Rice, CEO of JLT Specialty USA. “Bill has significant background and management experience with both domestic and international exposures and will be instrumental as we look to continue to build upon our U.S. construction platform based on JLT Group’s established global presence in the field.”

Since 2013, Buchan served as Vice President of Risk Management at Tutor Perini Corporation, where he led a risk management team that covered renewal activities, policy management, claims management, CDI, contract language review, project insurance bid activities, RMIS and captive management. From 2007 to 2013, he was a Senior Vice President and Regional Director at Aon Risk Services, where he managed its Western Region Wrap-Up Group. Previously, Buchan managed a new enterprise risk management function at Premera Blue Cross and began his career at AT&T, where he was the Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management. Buchan holds a B.A. in Economics from North Park University.

Also announced today, Brian Lu will be joining JLT Specialty USA as Senior Vice President on the environmental team and will be based in New York. As a member of the environmental team, Lu will work closely with the Construction Practice, along with JLT’s M&A practice, leveraging his significant experience in the environmental field, where he has worked closely with M&A firms to provide comprehensive due diligence and the creation of the most inclusive programs possible.

Prior to joining JLT Specialty USA, Brian Lu was a Director at Aon Risk Solutions, where he managed the Northeast for the Aon Environmental Services Group and acted as the Structured Portfolio Solutions Project Leader for the Environmental Practice since 2012. From 2003 to 2012, Brian worked in senior underwriting roles at both AIG and Chubb, primarily for the Environmental and Energy Divisions. In that time, his territories spanned the Eastern and Western regions, where Brian was responsible for creating sophisticated environmental solutions for a variety of clientele. Lu received dual B.A.s in Economics and Philosophy from Rutgers University.
