We urge over 4,500 customers who have Pay As You Go Meters to ensure they 'top up' their charging keys with sufficient credit to keep their electricity supply running over the festive period.

The Island has over 20 retail locations where JE customers can pay funds on to electronic keys that transfer credit to their electricity meters. These include some Waitrose stores, some Iceland branches, Food Halls and garage forecourt outlets. Full details can be found here.

With most shops closed Christmas Day and many also closed Boxing Day, JE is concerned some PAYG Customers may get caught out by failing to top up their keys sufficiently to carry them over the holiday.

JE Head of Customer Care Brian O'Gorman said: 'With so much on people's minds in the run up to Christmas, charging meter keys could easily get overlooked. It's the time when people tend to use more electricity and the consequences of not topping up in time could be more than a little inconvenient.

'Though our 24-hour, emergency engineers would go out to help, there would be a call-out fee in these circumstances. The best advice is to top up early with sufficient credit on the meter to keep you going. It is also especially important to remember if someone has an elderly or infirm relative or friend who relies on him or her for help to make sure they are topped up, too.

'Our Customer Care Centre at The Powerhouse, where customers can also top up, is open 8am until 6pm on Friday 22 December and re-opens at 8am on Wednesday 27 December.

'At New Year, our Customer Care Centre is open 8am to 6pm on Friday 29 December and re-opens 8am to 6pm on Tuesday 2 January 2017.'
