Platinum group metal refining at Johnson Matthey's West Deptford, USA refinery

Johnson Matthey yesterday celebrated the opening of a new platinum group metal (pgm) refinery in Zhangjiagang, China. This investment will create 30 jobs and enables us to meet growing domestic pgm refining and recycling demand. It brings our Chinese customers advanced analytical methods, modern refining technologies and comprehensive metal management support.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief Executive of Johnson Matthey Robert MacLeod said: "I am pleased to be here today to mark the opening our latest refinery. This investment demonstrates our commitment to our business in China and will ensure that we have the capability to supply pgms for customer products and applications for the coming years."

Johnson Matthey is the world's largest secondary refiner of platinum group metals - the refining of metal that has already been used. Recycling metal lessens the need for mining and helps Johnson Matthey and our customers lower our environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.

Today, more than 90% of Johnson Matthey's sales come from products and services with sustainability benefits through their beneficial impact on the environment, resource efficiency and health.

Johnson Matthey employs 1,000 people across seven locations in China and is a major manufacturer of emission control catalysts and automotive battery materials in the country.
