G-Energy Team leads in the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup following the 2014 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 11 April 2014 Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhilsov of the Russian G-Energy Team drove their BMW MINI ALL4 Racing car to victory in the third round of the FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup - the 2014 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge - securing the overall lead in the World Cup. The 2014 Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which was held on 5-10 April, extended over more than a thousand kilometres of highly complex terrain located in the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi (UAE). A total of 100 competitors took part in the qualifications in SUVs, motorcycles, and ATVs from 32 countries.

The crew negotiated each stage of the challenging sandy trail in the dunes of the Arabian Desert in Rub' al Khali. On the second day, the G-Energy Team drivers outstripped their competitors, taking the lead in the standings and holding onto it until the very end. This victory in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge gives the team extra points and puts them in first place in the World Cup rankings.

"We're pleased that the G-Energy Team's indisputable success in the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge set the stage for a subsequent victory in the World Cup. The technical special stages require outstanding driving and navigational skills from the drivers, and reliable functioning from the cars in what are extreme conditions during the rally, and G-Energy oil contributes to this", said Alexander Trukhan, General Director of Gazpromneft-Lubricants.

Gazpromneft-Lubricants, the manufacturer of G-Energy premium motor oils, became a sponsor of the team in early 2014 as part of a programme to develop motorsports in Russia. The company provides lubricants and industrial fluids for testing in BMW X3 CC and MINI ALL4 Racing during cross-country rallies. The extreme loads on engines in off-road racing conditions provide the ideal opportunity to test the motor oils' performance characteristics. The company takes the results of the tests and input from the drivers of the cars to perfect the formula and produce exceptionally high-quality products.
