Julius Baer, the leading Swiss private banking group, continues to expand its business activities in its home market. At the Berne location, a new market head as well as an experienced team of ten specialists will join Julius Baer. The important Geneva market and the Lucerne office will come under new leadership.

Zurich, 7 July 2016 - As previously reported, Julius Baer is expanding its presence at the Berne location by significantly strengthening its staff with a new head and an additional team of ten specialists. Jean-Claude Mariéthod and the team are joining Julius Baer from Valiant Bank. For the past seven years, Jean-Claude Mariéthod has served in various executive functions, such as deputy CEO and member of the Executive Board of Valiant private bank. He became Head Private Banking and Investment at Valiant Bank in 2012, and Head Wealth Advisory Clients in 2015. Jean-Claude Mariéthod will succeed Patrick Héritier as Head of the Berne branch as of 1 January 2017 and will additionally assume the function of Market Head 'Swiss Locations', encompassing the smaller Swiss locations, as of 1 April 2017. After handing over his duties, Patrick Héritier will take on a new challenge within the Bank, in a senior management function. The transition period will ensure a seamless succession.

'I am delighted that, with Jean-Claude Mariéthod and his team, we were able to attract experienced private banking specialists to this important market. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Patrick Héritier for his contribution to organising his succession through the recruitment of the new team and his willingness to ensure a seamless handover,' said Barend Fruithof, Head Switzerland & Global Custody.

In order to further advance its business in French-speaking Switzerland, Julius Baer has appointed Yassine Ben Hamida as Market Head Geneva as of 1 August 2016. He is taking over in this important function from Gabriele Odone, who will remain with the Bank in a senior management function. Yassine Ben Hamida has worked for Credit Suisse for the past seven years, most recently as Head Coverage Emerging Markets for Financial Institutions & Transaction Banking. Gabriele Odone has worked for Julius Baer since 2010, holding various executive positions in the region, including Market Head Geneva, Head Special Clients and Market Head Vaud-Valais.

'Thanks to Yassine Ben Hamida's network and his local roots, we will be optimally positioned in Geneva to take full advantage of the growth potential in the French-speaking part of Switzerland in the coming years,' said Barend Fruithof. 'I would like to thank Gabriele Odone for his commitment and the successful positioning of Julius Baer in Geneva.'

Last but not least, the Lucerne location will also be under new leadership: Gieri Giger will take over as Head Lucerne with immediate effect. Gieri Giger has already led the Zug branch of Bank Julius Baer successfully for the past nine years. He will continue in this function in addition to his new duties in Lucerne.

'We are very pleased to have Gieri Giger, a long-standing Julius Baer employee with proven experience, take over as Head of the important Lucerne location,' said Barend Fruithof. 'I am convinced that by strengthening our personnel we have placed ourselves in the best position for long-term and sustainable growth in our important home market of Switzerland.'
