Iowa Virtual Academy (IAVA), an online public school program of the Clayton Ridge Community School District, welcomes families to enroll for the 2018-2019 school year. Currently in its sixth year of operation, IAVA is available tuition-free to students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state. The school combines online instruction, rigorous curriculum and the support of Iowa-licensed teachers to provide a personalized experience for each student.

“Our school offers students an excellent public education in a unique setting,” says Steve Hoff, IAVA’s Head of School. “Our dedicated teachers partner closely with each family, building a foundation that prepares our students for college and careers.”

Today IAVA provides an option for more than 300 Iowa families seeking an alternative to brick-and-mortar schools. Through live and recorded online class sessions, students and their teachers engage in the core subjects of math, English/language arts, science, history, art, music and physical education. In high school IAVA students have access to electives, Advanced Placement® courses, and up to four levels of world languages.

In addition to live online sessions, teachers regularly communicate with students and families via email and phone. Students also have access to resources such as books, workbooks and materials for offline projects. Throughout the year, the IAVA community comes together for in-person field trips, school outings and social events.

Students choose online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learners, students seeking an environment safe from bullies, and students who require flexible schedules due to extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. IAVA’s online platform gives students the flexibility to pursue their academic goals in a supportive environment and at a pace that is appropriate for them.

Students interested in enrolling in IAVA must submit an application before the state’s open enrollment deadline of March 1, 2018 (September 1, 2018 for kindergarten). During the enrollment period, interested families are invited to join online and in-person information sessions throughout the state, to meet teachers, staff and other IAVA families to learn more about the online school.
