Students at Washington Virtual Academy (WAVA), an accredited, full-time, online public charter school, will begin their 2016-2017 school year on September 7, as the program marks its 11th year of operation in the state. According to a spring 2016 survey conducted by Edge Research, 94% of the families with students enrolled in the school during the 2015-2016 school year felt that their child had benefitted academically from the curriculum.

WAVA is open to all students in grades K through 12 who reside in Washington, providing students a unique school setting and supportive approach. The rigorous and engaging curriculum offered by the school includes courses in language arts/English, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students. State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. As a public school option, there is no tuition.

Notably WAVA provides students with unique school opportunities. Students at every grade level are encouraged to participate in several of the social activities, such as recognition assemblies, clubs, outings and student leadership opportunities. WAVA high school students have the opportunity to take up 15 credits of college courses tuition-free through the Running Start Program offered at local community colleges, earning credits towards both a high school and college degree.
