Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA), an accredited, full-time online public school program serving students in grades K-12 will honor the Class of 2017 at a graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 3rd.

The first virtual charter school in Georgia and currently the largest public school in the state, GCA serves students from all 159 counties across the state. As a public school option, there is no tuition.

This year, over 600 students will graduate from GCA. Of these students, 119 will graduate with honors: 71 Summa Cum Laude, 17 Magna Cum Laude and 31 Cum Laude. One hundred and four students are Dual Enrollment Scholars and two students have already earned Associate’s Degrees.

Malik Saafir is the Class of 2017 valedictorian and plans to attend Morehouse College. Paola Berrios is the salutatorian and plans to attend Georgia State University. The Georgia Scholar is Michaela Daniel who plans to attend Princeton University.

Graduates report earning $5.5M in scholarships and report having been accepted to the following colleges and universities: Cornell University, Georgetown University, Florida International University, New York University, Notre Dame, University of Georgia, Georgia Gwinnett College, Howard University, Northwestern University, Louisiana State University, Brigham Young University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Colorado State University, Rice University, Spelman College, The Citadel, University of Miami and the University of North Carolina.

Members of the Class of 2017 plan to also serve our country in the following branches of the military upon graduation: United States Army, United States Air Force, United States Coast Guard and United States Marine Corp.

The ceremony will include an address from State Charter Schools Commissioner Tony Lowden. Lowden is the Executive Director of STONE Academy, an after-school enrichment program.
