Students at Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy (OVCA), an online public charter school authorized by the Statewide Virtual Charter School Board, will begin the 2017-18 school year on Aug. 14, as the program begins its seventh year of operation. OVCA is open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade statewide.

OVCA offers online instruction, hands-on curriculum and the support of state-licensed teachers to cultivate a personalized education experience for each student. The school’s rigorous and engaging curriculum includes courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world languages, art and music, as well as numerous elective and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students.

College- or career-minded students can choose from a broad range of profession-focused courses in order to gain a competitive edge for the future, discover their path after high school or explore a possible college major. High school students can also earn college credits with concurrent enrollment through in-person or online courses at colleges and universities throughout the state.

State-certified teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, interacting with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. As a public school option, there is no tuition.

“Traditional brick-and-mortar school is not the right fit for every student,” said Beth Watt, a math teacher at Oklahoma Virtual Charter Academy. “Instead of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, online education allows students to learn in the ways that are right for them.”

OVCA is still accepting enrollment for this fall. To learn more, visit http://ovca.k12.com.

Beth Watt is available to take media members “behind the scenes” to demonstrate how online learning works.
