Students at Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA), an accredited online public charter school, will begin their 2017-18 school year on Aug. 14. Open to students in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state of Nevada, NVVA begins its ninth year of operation.

NVVA provides a blended learning program that combines online learning with face-to-face instruction. The school has blended learning sites in Las Vegas and Reno where students can meet and engage with a state-licensed teacher in person in addition to the virtual interaction.

“Education is not ‘one-size-fits-all,’ and traditional brick-and-mortar schools do not work for every student,” said Thad Simmons, a high school math teacher at Nevada Virtual Academy. “Each of our students has his or her own reason for choosing virtual education. At NVVA, we provide students the opportunity to be successful with a personalized learning approach.”

The school’s rigorous and engaging curriculum includes core courses in English/language arts, math, science, history, world language, art and music, as well as an extensive catalog of electives. High school students can take honors and Advanced Placement® courses. Additionally, the school’s dual credit program, in collaboration with the Nevada System of Higher Education, offers qualified juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit up to an associate degree while enrolled at NVVA.

NVVA’s Independent Study Pathway is a fully immersive virtual program which allows students to advance through the curriculum at a much quicker pace than more traditional academic programs. Students will have the support of a teacher with weekly online small group meetings. In elementary school, students can move through more than one grade level during a school year, with principal approval. In order to do this, students must take proctored state and grade-level testing to demonstrate their academic ability. In middle school, students have several options to advance quickly depending on their academic needs. Classroom and tutoring support are also available to students in the Independent Study Pathway.

NVVA is still accepting enrollments for this fall. To learn more, visit http://nvva.k12.com.
