Kao Corporation has been selected for inclusion in the 2016 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for three years in a row, among the world's most renowned socially responsible investment (SRI) indices.

The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices are offered cooperatively by S&P Dow Jones Indices in the United States and RobecoSAM in Switzerland to evaluate the sustainability of the world's leading companies in terms of economic, environmental and social criteria. Each year, about 2,500 companies in 59 industries are evaluated, and only 10 percent of these companies are named to DJSI World. This year, 316 companies were selected for inclusion in the World index, 26 companies of which are headquartered in Japan.

Kao received high evaluation in Product Stewardship, a criteria within the Environmental Dimension, by its practice to reduce environmental impact through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA* ). Kao also scored highly in the Economic Dimension, in which Kao was lauded for its Innovation Management in producing high-value-added products.

Supported by such recognition as being named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, the Kao Group will continue to work toward achievement of a sustainable society.

* Life Cycle Assessment. LCA is an approach to assess the environmental impact throughout the lifecycle of products from raw material procurement to production, transportation, sale, use and final disposal.
