KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation’s largest and most recognized homebuilders, today released its ninth annual Sustainability Report, available exclusively at www.kbhome.com/sustainability. KB Home issued its inaugural report in 2008, the first major homebuilder to do so, and remains among a group of leading companies in sustainability that publishes a comprehensive annual sustainability report.

The latest report covers KB Home’s sustainability initiatives and activities during 2015. The builder’s achievements against a range of goals during this period included lowering the average Home Energy Ratings System (HERS) Index Score of its new homes for the eighth straight year, further enhancing its homes’ water efficiency and increasing its emphasis on promoting healthier indoor living environments and communities. The company also continued to focus on reducing waste in its operations and across its supply chain.

“KB Home is proud to publish our ninth annual Sustainability Report on Earth Day,” said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB Home. “We believe our consistent commitment to sustainable homebuilding for nearly a decade has made a meaningful, real-world contribution to the health of the environment and the lives of our homebuyers by helping them to conserve critical natural resources and reduce their carbon footprint. While there is much more work to do, we are pleased with our progress on our goals.”

As detailed in the report, through 2015 KB Home has built over 95,000 ENERGY STAR® certified homes, 10,000 Water Smart® and WaterSense® labeled new homes, 4,200 solar-powered homes, 12 ZeroHouse 2.0 and Double ZeroHouse 3.0 project homes and 150+ LEED Platinum homes.

Collectively, these homes are estimated to prevent greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those from 34,000 passenger vehicles and conserve 1.1 billion gallons of water annually, while saving more than $28 million in utility bills each year. Additionally, the solar power systems installed at KB Home communities in aggregate produce nearly as much energy as a 10-megawatt solar power plant and offset the production of an estimated 11,700 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Details of KB Home’s sustainability goals, achievements and challenges can be found in the 2015 KB Home Sustainability Report, which can now be accessed on the company’s website at www.kbhome.com/sustainability. In developing the report, KB Home once again followed the Global Reporting Initiative Guidelines, which provide a widely recognized level of accountability and transparency, and are considered by many environmental experts to be the current standard for sustainability reporting.
