Kohl's Achieves Fifth Consecutive ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis., March 28, 2016 - Kohl's (NYSE: KSS) announced today that the company has been recognized with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award, marking the fifth consecutive recognition for the company's continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. An EPA ENERGY STAR member since 1998, Kohl's achieved a milestone 1,000 ENERGY STAR-certified store locations in 2015, totaling more than 85 percent of Kohl's stores nationwide. In 2015 alone, more than 70 Kohl's stores received ENERGY STAR certification.

"By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, Kohl's is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate change," said Gina McCarthy, EPA Administrator. "I'm proud to recognize Kohl's with the highest form of ENERGY STAR recognition, as the winner of the 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award. Kohl's demonstrates a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

Kohl's has also set a goal through the Department of Energy Better Buildings Challenge to reduce its energy use in more than 112 million square feet of occupied building space by at least 20 percent by 2020. At the end of 2014, Kohl's achieved a 16 percent reduction in energy usage from a 2008 baseline, and further reduced energy usage by an additional 3.2 percent in 2015.

In addition to receiving Sustained Excellence Awards in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016, Kohl's achieved Partner of the Year Awards in 2010 and 2011.
