Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. has forged an agreement with SEGA Interactive Co., Ltd. to jointly pursue a common electronic currency infrastructure for arcade game machines.

Arcade game users and arcade operators have long desired the more convenient option of an infrastructure that supports multiple brands of electronic currency. Now, KONAMI (as provider of arcade electronic currency 'PASELI' since 2010) and SEGA Interactive (who have been pursuing electronic currency infrastructure development since 2015) have joined forces to aim to provide a common infrastructure by summer 2016.

This collaboration will allow every day use electronic currency service, such as transportation, and standalone arcade currency service PASELI to unify, and will enable arcade operators to provide the unique services of each arcade game developer without placing multiple electronic currency cabinets in their facility.

Additionally, the ability for users to easily select their payment methods between cash, PASELI, and other electronic currencies, will mean a great leap forward in arcade user-friendliness.

By utilizing a 'thin client' approach in which processing on the payment terminal is kept to a minimum and the electronic currency authorization is instead performed on the server side, it will be possible to provide a low-cost, high-security electronic currency infrastructure.

KONAMI and SEGA Interactive share in the common goal of guiding the evolution of the arcade game industry, and will use this partnership to make great advances in the way electronic currency applies to arcade devices.
