Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. announces that it will hold the Pawapuro Championships 2017, a Japanese eSports competition to determine the number one players of KONAMI baseball content, beginning Saturday, August 26th. This competition is an officially recognized tournament of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).

This initiative came about owing to a shared goal of KONAMI and NPB, that being to grow as well as energize baseball's fan base.

NPB Commissioner Katsuhiko Kumazaki had this to say:
'Through this baseball content eSports collaboration with Konami Digital Entertainment, we hope to further increase interest in professional baseball, as well as continue to grow and energize the sport's fan base.'

Speaking about this initiative, President of Konami Digital Entertainment, Hideki Hayakawa, said: 'These eSports championships will be fun not only for the players, but also for those watching on location and those streaming them online. We here at KONAMI, along with NPB, will continue to work to promote the sport by introducing the joy of baseball to an even greater audience.'

KONAMI will continue to offer ever more consumers fun and exciting experiences through eSports initiatives.

Players can participate in this tournament through several games*: mobile title 'JIKKYOU PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU,' PlayStation®4 title 'JIKKYOU PAWAFURU PUROYAKYU Championship 2017' (available as a free download on PS Store), and mobile title 'Professional Baseball Spirits A.' The battles between the players who have advanced to the nationwide competition will take place at venues in Osaka, Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Tokyo.
