Landstar System, Inc., a worldwide, asset-light provider of integrated transportation management solutions delivering safe, specialized transportation logistics services, has broken ground on a new cross-border logistics center in Laredo, Texas.

Landstar broke ground on the 31,000 square foot logistics facility located on a 50 acre site in April 2016. The facility will be well-suited for Landstar's capacity, agents and customers and will allow Landstar to continue growing its Mexico service offerings, which include truck, rail, LTL, transload, customs brokerage and freight forwarding services.

'As our cross-border operations have expanded, Landstar has outgrown its current facility in Laredo, Texas,' said Landstar Transportation Logistics Executive Vice President of Operations Eric Meyer. 'The new facility, located in the heart of the Mines Roadbusiness district, will better serve Landstar's customers, capacity and agents and put Landstar in a unique position to advance its cross-border operations.'

A 30-bay cross dock and transload facility is planned at the new Laredo center, as well as a dedicated and expanded heavy-haul section of the yard, which will include a 120 ton stand-alone bridge crane.

'The bridge crane will be a unique trucking application in Laredo. It will be used to transfer Heavy/Specialized freight between various types of platform equipment coming to and from Mexico,' said Landstar Transportation Logistics Vice President of Mexico Operations Steve Wisnieski.

The facility will also offer Landstar BCOs and capacity providers a spacious lounge and media center.
