L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering Signs Agreement with Institute of Chemical Technology to Build Second Generation Ethanol Plants

Mumbai, May26, 2017:L&THydrocarbon Engineering(LTHE), a leading provider of design to-build engineering and construction solutions across the hydrocarbon spectrum to global majors, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen& Toubro (L&T), has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Instituteof Chemical Technology (ICT) to build Ethanol plants based on the fully indigenous technology developed by ICTfor producing Second Generation Ethanol. This novel technology developed by ICTunder the leadershi p of Dr.Arvind Lali, Head of DBT-ICT Centre, is capable of processing a variety of feedstocks and offers one of

the lowest project lifecycle cost.

Today, Indiais producing about 3% bio-ethanol blending with Ethanol derived from molasses, which is called first Generation (1G) Ethanol. There isa huge impetus from the Government of Indiato set up second Generation (2G)Ethanol plantsin order to achieve the ambitious target of 20% blending of bio-fuels. 2G Ethanolisdefined as that derived from agricultural wastes that do notimpact human and animal food chains, and result in more than60% reduction infuel carbon emissions compared to equivalent petro-fuel use.

Prof. G.D. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, ICT,stated that the Departmentof Bio·Technology (DBT),Government of India, set up India'sfirst bio-energy research centre at ICT in 2008, known as the DBT-ICT Centre for Bio-science, with the express mandate to develop, scale up and monetize the 2G Ethanol bio-ethanol technology.

LTHE and ICTwillcollaborate to provide complete solutions insetting up 2G Ethanol plants in terms of Process License, Technology Knowhow, Basic Engineering, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) or Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM).

Mr. SubramanianSarma, MD &CEO of UHHydrocarbonEngineering, said, "We are delighted to be part of thisinitiative undertaken by the Government ofIndia, and it is inline withourcommitment toNation Building. The 2G Ethanol projects willheralda new ageof technologicaladvancement and willfuel India's green economicgrowthengine. LTHEwill

leverageits vast experiencein engineering, construction and projectmanagement tomeetchallenges anddeliver the 2G Ethanolprojects".
