LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Sep 8, 2014) - Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) and international nonprofit Clean the World invite the Las Vegas community to join LVS (Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Expo) Team Members in a two-day volunteer effort to build 100,000 ONE Project hygiene kits for disaster relief efforts conducted by the American Red Cross in the Las Vegas area and for major disasters in the United States.

Underscoring September as National Preparedness Month, LVS will underwrite and host community builds on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21 at The Venetian | The Palazzo as part of the company's global corporate citizenship program, Sands Cares, and its ongoing partnership with Clean the World.

Interested community volunteers ages 8 and above can sign up at http://disasterkitbuild.eventbrite.com for two-hour shifts to assemble ONE Project hygiene kits for disaster relief victims. Throughout the builds, LVS will provide volunteers with free refreshments and ongoing raffles for hotel, restaurant and shopping prizes. Volunteer shifts will run 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20 and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.

"We are committed to supporting Clean the World and we know that it's critical during times of disaster that the necessities we take for granted become the foundation for keeping people healthy and moving ahead," said Michael Leven, LVS president and chief operating officer. "This community build is an important effort to ensure Clean the World and the American Red Cross can help disaster victims when they most need it. We hope the Las Vegas community will join our Team Members in reaching this ambitious goal to build 100,000 disaster relief hygiene kits in two days."

Each disaster relief hygiene kit includes soap that was collected from Las Vegas hospitality properties, such as The Venetian | The Palazzo, and recycled through Clean the World's new soap sanitation and processing equipment, made possible through a $1 million commitment in 2014 by LVS. Other amenities in the kit include shampoo, conditioner, a toothbrush and toothpaste, which address the most critical hygiene essentials in a disaster situation.

"With the substantial partnership of Las Vegas Sands, Clean the World will have our largest build ever and the potential to impact so many people in their time of critical need," said Shawn Seipler, founder and executive director of Clean the World. "The power of our work to drive the global hygiene revolution is amplified by bringing together the generous support of Las Vegas Sands, the tremendous impact of the America Red Cross in disaster relief situations and the amazing volunteer manpower of the Las Vegas community."

The American Red Cross will distribute the ONE Project hygiene kits to disaster victims in the Las Vegas area and to victims affected during major disasters in the U.S., such as hurricanes and floods. Locally, hygiene kits will be given to families displaced by disasters such as fires and flooding.

"Right in our own backyard, hundreds of families every year find themselves unexpectedly without access to their homes, personal items and sense of security," said Scott Emerson, CEO for the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. "These 100,000 kits will make an enormous impact on our ability to provide emergency relief to disaster victims in our region and around the country."

The disaster relief kit build came about through LVS' ongoing partnership with Clean the World as part of the company's global corporate citizenship program, Sands Cares. Beyond its corporate philanthropic partnership with Clean the World, LVS also works with the nonprofit organization to drive sustainable practices on its properties. Since 2011, LVS and Clean the World have recycled more than 50 tons of waste from LVS properties into more than 550,000 bars of recycled soap.
