EMERYVILLE, Calif., Jan. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:LF), the leader in educational entertainment, announced today that LeapTVTM, LeapFrog's new educational video gaming system, has won one of the coveted 2015 Kids at Play Interactive (KAPi) Awards for innovation in children's media in the "Best Hardware" category. This year's KAPi winners were recognized at the 5th Annual KAPi Awards Ceremony held last night in connection with the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Warren Buckleitner, coordinator of the KAPi Awards, noted that "After much debate, the jurors appreciated LeapTV's ability to turn a living room TV into a safe, educational playground by way of an affordable plug and play device that harnesses technology normally found in much more sophisticated game consoles."

Created by the editor of Children's Technology Review Warren Buckleitner and founder of Living in Digital Times Robin Raskin, the annual KAPi Awards are highly-regarded peer-recognition awards designed to highlight innovation and excellence in design in commercial children's interactive media. Each year winners are selected by a panel of 12 esteemed industry experts.

"We are profoundly honored to receive a KAPi Award for our LeapTV educational video game system, acknowledging one of our biggest educational platform launches ever for excellence in innovation and design," said John Barbour, chief executive officer at LeapFrog. "Our commitment to helping children reach their potential is at the center of everything we do, and recognition of LeapTV by KAPi Award jurors validates our continual drive to bring learning and fun together through new and exciting interactive media experiences.

LeapTV teaches a range of skills across reading, mathematics, science and problem solving though engaging and entertaining video game play. With simple and intuitive user interfaces specifically created with first-time players in mind, LeapTV provides children three ways to play: motion control, pointer play, and a classic controller mode. Using LeapTV's unique camera, children can see themselves on the TV in the video game as they dance, play sports and more, while experiencing curricular challenges along the way. LeapTV also includes a transforming gaming controller that has been designed for children's small hands and limited dexterity. In its regular configuration it enables classic gameplay, but with the simple press of a button it easily transforms into a motion controller and LED pointer controller. The LeapTV system includes console, motion-sensing camera, camera mount, transforming controller with wrist strap, HDMI cable, 16GB of memory and built-in Wi-Fi for downloading apps (sold separately).
