Business Minister Jo Swinson has said there is "no excuse" for employers who do not pay their workers the national minimum wage, after the Government "named and shamed" another 48.

The latest names take the total number of businesses that have been made public for failing to pay their workers what they are legally entitled to more than 200, since the crackdown began in October 2013.

The 48 employers underpaid their workers by £162,000 between them, and they have been ordered to pay more than £67,000 in penalties.

They include businesses in the publishing, fashion, retail, and health and fitness sectors.

The 200 or so named and shamed employers paid £635,000 less in wages between them than they should have done, and they had to pay penalties totalling £250,000.

Ms Swinson says the Government's efforts to make sure employers are paying their workers the minimum wage include giving more resources to investigators.
