(Virginia Beach, Va.) June 22, 2016 - Representatives of national security, health and infrastructure solutions company Leidos presented the Leidos Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) scholarship to Coralys Carcana Barbosa. Leidos contributed the $2,000 scholarship through the Surface Navy's Anchor Scholarship Foundation. Executive Vice President Tom Dove, and Navy Strategic Account Executive Nevin Carr presented the scholarship at a high energy award luncheon held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, with keynote speaker Admiral Bill Gortney, Commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, and U.S. Northern Command.

The Anchor Scholarship Foundation relies on individual donors and industry partners to provide scholarships to family members of active duty, retired or honorably discharged Surface Navy personnel. Recipients, both children and spouses, are selected on the basis of academic performance, character, extracurricular activities, and financial needs. As Admiral Gortney emphasized in his remarks, 'this is an investment in our country's future.'

Ms. Carcana Barbosa graduated from Old Mills Senior High School in Millersville, Maryland, with a GPA of 4.25. She will attend the University of Pittsburg in the fall, and plans to study Biological Sciences, with focus on Genetics.

'We're proud to support the Anchor Scholarship Foundation, an organization dedicated to mitigating the debt our Surface Navy families face as they pursue a college education,' said Dove. 'These families sacrifice so much for our nation, and we're honored to help them achieve their collegiate goals.'

'In an age of increasing global competition, it's essential we support students who will move our country forward in science and technology through the pursuit of STEM-related education,' added Carr. 'As an industry leader in technology, Leidos is committed to preparing more students for careers in these critical fields.'
