Books, Birds and Beauty brought to life
29 October 2014

Sunshine Coast sculptor Ted Barraclough is just one artist celebrating creative life as part of an interactive panel discussion on Books, Birds and Beauty at Hibiscus Noosa Outlook on 9 November, part of Lend Lease's second annual Spring Retirement Festival.

Ted will share his stories and give insight to the creative life as an artist in a panel discussion led by ABC radio darling, Mary-Lou Stephens and including successful stylist and blogger Nikki Parkinson and author Inga Simpson.

Ted said for him Spring is a time of creative inspiration, hand-carving and painting wooden birds exhibited throughout Australia and featured in his coffee table book Birds.

"I starting carving when I was 10, but it was only after our kids had grown up that I really got stuck into it. That was many years ago. I've had exhibitions annually for a many years now," said Ted.

"Our back yard in Peregian Beach is small but it's full of birds. Almost every year for seven years, we've had Little Wattle Birds nesting in a pot plant on our deck - my grand-children love peering in at the babies.

"Last week we had a whole family of White Cheeked Honey Eaters swimming in one of our bird baths in the back yard. They are such colourful birds; I call them the liquorice allsorts bird."br/> Queensland manager of Lend Lease's retirement business, Greg Little said Books, Birds and Beauty was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the Coast's creative life and natural beauty and inspire those over 55 to try something new.

"We're excited to be joined by this eclectic and inspirational panel of guests to explore and celebrate creativity as the zest of life," said Mr Little.

"We look forward to opening our doors to the community during our Spring Retirement Festival, welcoming them into our seven Sunshine Coast villages and celebrating the lives of over 55s."

All events are free and are for those aged 55+. To view the full festival program, or book online visit www.retirementbylendlease.com.au/SRF or call the Spring Retirement Festival hotline 1800 550 550.
