Major West London refurbishment for Stanhope, Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo

Lendlease's construction business is delighted to announce it has been taken on as Construction Manager for a major refurbishment project at White City Place - formerly known as the BBC's Media Village - on Wood Lane in West London. The project is to refurbish three buildings at White City Place - WestWorks, Mediaworks, and Garden House - in order to create state-of-the-art commercial office facilities and help drive regeneration of the local area.

Contracts for the three buildings have now been signed with a total value of £80m, and further works are currently being finalised for £7m of landscaping. The developers are Stanhope - a longstanding client of Lendlease's construction business - together with Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo.

Before the work began, the Lendlease team provided an extensive advice package on buildability and logistics. Two of the buildings - MediaWorks and Garden House - were built by Lendlease 12 years ago, while Lendlease has previously carried out work on White City One. Together the three buildings, once refurbished, will offer 600,000 sq ft of commercial office space for rent.

Nearly 30 Lendlease construction staff are already on the sites together with 95 subcontractor workers - the number of subcontractors is expected to rise to 550 as the project progresses. The project involves substantial structural alteration, replacement of glass and the restoration of building facades. The project is expected to complete in the third quarter of 2017.

Neil Martin, Managing Director of Lendlease's construction business, said: 'We're excited to be working with our longstanding client Stanhope as well as Mitsui Fudosan and AIMCo on White City Place. We worked closely with the team to understand exactly what was required in order to deliver the right results and optimise the return on their investment. We've long been involved in major projects in this part of West London.'

Stanhope is also transforming Television Centre into a vibrant mixed-use development, featuring a total of 950 new homes, office space for the creative industries, restaurants and cafes, state-of-the-art studios for the BBC and a Soho House members club and hotel.

White City Place sits on 17 acres of land adjacent to the Imperial College campus, and is very close to White City and Wood Lane tube stations. Plans for the area include up to 2,500 high quality homes, over two million sq ft of offices, new public spaces, an enhanced world-class shopping offer and a hub for academia, innovation and start-ups.

Projects Lendlease's construction business has worked on previously with Stanhope include Central Saint Giles, Chiswick Park, and Paternoster Square. Current projects the two companies are working together on include Finsbury Circus and Ruskin Square.
