We2 Social Wi-Fi Available In New York Starting Today

GOWEX, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, launches new Social Wi-Fi Network, immediately attracting hundreds of pioneering merchants.

New York, December 18th, 2013 - GOWEX, a leading player in the creation of Wireless Smart Cities®, in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), today launched We2, the new Social Wi-Fi network, with more than 500 pioneering merchants subscribed throughout the city, including Empire Steakhouse in Midtown; AG Kitchenon the Upper West Side; Manducatis Rustica in Long Island City; Best Perfumes Plus in Fordham Road; Goodfellas and Tiengarden in SoHo and Station in Brooklyn. We2 is the next generation of GOWEX Wi-Fi solutions, building Smart Citizens® on top of the company's existing Smart Cities® worldwide.

The We2 Social Wi-Fi platform includes the NetVertiser device and the We2 Merchant mobile application. Together they allow businesses to provide secure Wi-Fi, create geolocated ads and promotions, message directly with customers, and review real-time business insights. On the customer side, a We2 User app for individuals will let people enjoy free in-store Wi-Fi, frictionless roaming at We2 and GOWEX hotspots across the city, and great social features like the ability to see and interact with other people connected to the We2 network.

Currently most small businesses use their private Wi-Fi signal and hand out the password to their customers, which is time-consuming and unsecure for both the merchant and consumer. Now, with We2, business owners are able to separate their private Wi-Fi connectivity from the one they give to the public. Also, where once small merchants did not have the time or funds to bother with advertising, We2 creates a dramatically easy and affordable way to effectively promote their businesses to people nearby. Merchants can set up an ad on the go from their mobile as easily as sending a text.

The We2 initiative is backed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation and is part of the Bloomberg Administration's efforts to further the position of New York as a Technology Hub. The merchant hotspots add to the more than 2,000 outdoor access points GOWEX already has operating in the city. (See web NY Free WiFi)

As part of the NYCEDC sponsorship, businesses enjoy free and unlimited use of the NetVertiser device and We2 application, and free advertising for the first 6 months.

"The response to the We2 and NYCEDC offer for merchants has been incredible, and we're excited for business owners to experience this revolutionary new kind of Wi-Fi with geolocated advertising, customers messaging and real-time data," said Carlos Gómez, We2's CEO. "We're also eager for individuals to enjoy the social side of the We2 service, based on interacting with the network of people We2 creates around you."

We2 deployment in New York City is only the beginning. GOWEX is boosting the We2 reach by partnering with top telecommunications operators worldwide. For operators, We2 is a differentiator - offering them with a unique mass consumption proposal. It's also an easy way to increase profitability by providing an alternative for cellular data offloading and by generating new revenue opportunities, including advertising and direct marketing.
