Level 3 Vyvx Solutions Delivered the Tournament from Chile to Viewers in Colombia

Jul 8, 2015

BOGOTA, Colombia, July 8, 2015 /PRNewswire / -- For the first time, Caracol Television, one of Colombia's main television networks, used Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) broadcast-based Vyvx Solutions to distribute an international feed of the annual Latin American soccer tournament from Santiago de Chile to Caracol Television's teleport in Bogota, Colombia, from 11 June to 4 July. In total, Level 3's Vyvx VenueNet+ transported more than 600 hours of video content as part of the event's coverage.

"Soccer is not a sport we take lightly in Colombia, and this particular competition is by far the biggest sporting event we broadcast, both in terms of number of viewers and the amount of technical expertise needed to deliver it to fans across our networks," said Augusto Cardona, chief channel technician for Caracol Television. "We trusted Level 3-with its secure, global network and extensive technical experience transporting live feeds for large-scale events-to help us deliver an unparalleled tournament-watching experience."

Level 3's on-site equipment and connectivity provided Caracol Television with a diverse, end-to-end network service enabling viewers to access every match. As part of this service, Caracol Television used compression services to transmit Level 3's three high-definition JPEG 2000 channels, with 200 mbps for video transmission and 10 mbps for data. Level 3 also managed all encoding, decoding and switching equipment.

"Level 3's extensive experience and global network provided a consistent, top-quality transmission to Caracol Television's viewers while the company enjoyed the ease of working with one vendor," said Pablo Yañez, vice president of connectivity, media and IP services for Level 3 in Latin America.
