Volunteers spruce up main floor and create new activity areas for kids

Elk Grove, IL - June 16, 2017 - On Liberty Property Trust's national day of service in honor of its founder, Willard 'Bill' G. Rouse III, employees in the company's Chicago office spent the day working to improve the facilities at the Green Teen Zone in Bensenville, a free after-school center for children in fourth through twelfth grade. This was the second year Liberty worked at the facility on Bill Rouse Day of Caring. The team's efforts included updating the first floor with new paint and activity areas for the kids as well as tending to the landscaping.

'We are excited to be back again, lending a hand at the Green Teen Zone,' said Neal Driscoll, vice president and market officer for Liberty Property Trust. 'The program plays an essential role in the community by providing a safe and engaging afterschool program for many local children.'

The Liberty team included both local company employees and vendors, including Thornapple Landscaping and PaintersUSA. The landscapers mulched and cleaned the grounds while the others painted the entire main floor and created an area for art supplies, a chalkboard nook for creativity and a video game center. In addition to their time, the volunteers donated new office and art supplies for the kids as well as all landscaping material used to refresh the grounds.

The Green Teen Zone is a free drop-in center for Bensenville kids. Its mission is to provide Bensenville students with a safe place to go after school and create a supervised environment in which the students can be engaged in positive activities to build character, reinforce education and promote healthy development. The Green Teen Zone is a place where youth can get involved in a number of artistic, educational, adventure and athletic activities that embrace Bensenville's community values and expectations. The center provides homework help to all children, as well as snack and dinner every day. The Green Zone is run in partnership with the Village of Bensenville.

For more than a decade, Liberty Property Trust employees have honored the memory of company founder Willard 'Bill' G. Rouse III with a national day of community service. It is traditionally observed on the Friday closest to his birthday, June 19, and celebrated by more than 350 employees in the company's more than 20 offices in the US and UK.
