Triple Output 28VIN Step-Down µModule Regulator with Integrated Heatsink delivers 70W in 4.5cm²

MILPITAS, CA - Augus t 26, 2014 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTM4634, a triple output s tep-down
µModule® (m icrom odule) regulator in a 15m m x 15m m x 5.01m m BGA package with integrated heat s ink. The therm ally efficient package enables the LTM4634 to deliver full current on all three outputs (5A, 5A, and 4A), m ore than 70W of output power at 65°C am bient with 200LFM airflow. Com bined with only 13 ceram ic capacitors and three res is tors , the LTM4634 s olution fits within 4.5cm ² on a dual-s ided PCB. The LTM4634 includes three DC/DC controllers , power s witches , inductors and com pens ation in a s ingle package. The regulated output voltage for channels 1 and 2 is adjus table between 0.8V to 5.5V, with the third channel from 0.8V to 13.5V, each with ±1.5% accuracy over line, load and tem perature. The com bination of wide output voltage range, a therm ally efficient package, tight regulation accuracy and s m all s olution s ize m akes  the LTM4634 well s uited to regulate com m on interm ediate power bus es s uch as 12V, 5V and 3.3V in ins trum entation, com m unications and indus trial applications .
The LTM4634's three s witchers operate from an input voltage from 4.75V to 28V. Separate input power pins for each s witcher enables channel one and/or channel two to be s upplied from a 12.5V, 50W interm ediate bus generated from channel three. The three s witchers , operating from the s am e internal or optional external clock s ignal, are internally phas e s hifted by 120° to m inim ize input ripple. For loads in exces s of 5A, channels 1 and 2 can be paralleled to s upport up to 10A. Output overvoltage and overcurrent fault protection are included in the regulator. The LTM4634's internal tem perature can be obs erved via two internal tem perature diode m onitors located next to the power s tages .
