CHICAGO, August 30, 2016 - Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, has introduced two series of TVS Diodes designed specifically to protect sensitive electronic equipment from voltage transients induced by load dump and other transient voltage events. The AEC-Q101 qualified TP1.5KE and TP5KP Series Automotive Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes offer a choice of 1500W (TP1.5KE) or 5000W (TP5KP) peak pulse power dissipation ratings in standard DO-201 and P600 axial-lead packages respectively. Their high peak pulse power dissipation ratings help the power systems into which they are designed pass surge tests outlined in the ISO7637-2 International Standard, which is widely used in the automotive industry as the basis for transient specifications.

Applications for the TP1.5KE and TP5KP Series include DC line protection and ESD protection in automotive electronics such as electronic control units, sensors, entertainment systems, and body control modules (BCMs); they are also useful for the protection of I/O interfaces, VCC busses and other vulnerable circuits used in telecom, computer, industrial and portable consumer electronics applications.

'For automotive electronics systems applications, these TVS Diodes outperform conventional circuit protection technologies like metal-oxide varistors (MOVs) and multi-layer varistors (MLVs), due to their AEC-101 qualified designs, low reverse voltage breakdown and low voltage clamping ratings,' said Charlie Cai, global product marketing manager for Littelfuse. 'They also have no wear-out mechanism, ensuring longer life.'

TP1.5KE and TP5KP Series TVS Diodes from Littelfuse offer these key benefits:

  • Their high peak pulse power dissipation ratings (1500W@10/1000μs for TP1.5KE Series; 5000W@10/1000μs for TP5KP Series) are well-suited for automotive applications. These high ratings helps the power systems into which they are designed pass the various 1, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b surge tests specified in ISO76372.
  • Both unidirectional and bidirectional polarity devices offer wide standoff voltage ranges (10.2V-40.2V for the TP1.5KE Series; 10V-60V for the TP5KP Series), so designers can easily select the most suitable part for their designs and applications.
  • These AEC-Q101 qualified automotive-grade products are also well-suited for high reliability applications.
  • They comply with IEC 61000-42 and IEC 6100044 standards, to help circuit designers meet global regulatory requirements.
