About Açu Superport

LLX is building the largest port infrastructure investment in the Americas in São João da Barra (RJ). With construction starting in October 2007 and operations forecast to start in 2013, it will have 17 km of piers, with up to 47 mooring berths, including for large vessels.

Açu Superport will have two terminals (TX1 and TX2), with a handling capacity of 350 million metric tons per year, making it one of the three largest port complexes in the world. With a design based on an industrial port theme, it will boast an adjacent industrial district, which will house steel mills, cement mills, a bulk liquid storage base, a metalworking cluster, a shipbuilding yard, a thermal power generation facility, iron ore pelletizing plants, an oil treatment and storage facility, offshore support firms and IT firms clustered into what will become Brazil's silicon valley, amongst other ventures.

Located in the port's landside area, the Metalworking Cluster will be fully integrated with TX2's Multicargo Terminal and will have roads designed to handle special loads such as large, heavyweight equipment. These benefits offer a logistical advantage to businesses setting up operations within the Metalworking Cluster, enabling them to ship out their projects efficiently and seamlessly.
