NASHVILLE, Tenn.(May 9, 2012) - APA - The Engineered Wood Association has named Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (LP) (NYSE: LPX) the 2011 Safest Company in the building products industry.

This is the third time in four years that LP has received APA's Safest Company award.

The APA Safety and Health Awards Program is the premier safety award program for the engineered wood industry in North America. It encourages and recognizes operational excellence with the goal of reducing injury and illness rates. The awards are based on data collected from member and non-member mills.

For the second year in a row, LP was named Safest Company for those that operate four or more mills, while the Peace Valley OSB joint venture that LP operates with Canfor was named Safest Company for those that operate three or fewer mills.

In addition, LP received seven of the APA's 13 safety awards. LP was also recognized for having 12 of the 16 facilities named to APA's 2011 Incident Free Honor Society.

"This award is an honor and a testament to the focus and determination of our employees," LP Executive Vice President Jeff Wagner said. "LP employees are the backbone of our safety culture which continues to lead the industry year in and year out."

"Our passion for safety on all levels of the company drives our desire for continuous improvement," LP Corporate Health and Safety Director Keith Harned said. "This award is a milestone in the journey, but we still have much work to do to realize our ultimate goal of zero injuries."

The Safest Company award will be presented during the APA annual meeting scheduled to be held Nov. 10-12, in Amelia Island, Fla. The organization will also present plaques to winning mills in the coming months.
