A third of the way through the summer and the WayCo and Outdoor Basketball League seasons in Wayland are starting to take shape. If you haven't found yourself keeping score at Cochituate or camped out in the high school parking lot, here is what you've missed.
John C Bryant and JumpSuit Group
John C's early success comes from a line up long with summer at bats between Ethan Stavistky, Bobby Jones, Michael Connell, and Jake Brady. The teams catalyst, Jimmy Lambert, has made the most of his time at the plate and in the field. "The whole team is playing well, but Lambert has yet to get out," said Jones. "He's 10 for his first 10. Jimmy and Jake have been great so far."
Pearle Vision and Mastodon Moving
Both Pearle Vision and Mastodon know that real trophies aren't won in the regular season. Laden with players who have hoisted WayCo victory high above their heads in mid-August, Colman Lydon (Pearle) and Will Glynn (Mastodon) are starting to put the pieces together.
"Jack Capellucci has done really well on the mound," said Glynn. "We'll stay competitive between our strong line up and pitching efforts. I think we have a shot to get back for our third championship."
Work Left to Do
Lavin's, West Plain Steamboats, Bolbi, and Henley's Team
While they have work left to do, for some teams it's a matter of getting all the right pieces to show and figure out what the ceiling will be. The West Plain Steamboats have played without keep players the first few nights and are looking forward to a full line up. "Jackson Coughlin is looking really good this year," said Steamboat captain Christian Boschetto. "He will have a chance at an MVP season and I think the team as a whole will make a run. We are deep, young, and a talented group. (Peter) Tsipis is our ace on the mound this summer and has pitched great to this point."
Henley's Team posted its first victory of the season and the earliest victory ever for a high school team in WayCo. Michael German's work in the outfield is making waves while Brian Carmichael has produced at the plate.
