Hospital da Luz Learning Health Obtains Certification in Gynecologic Oncology

The European Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy, in cooperation with the European Academy of Gynecologic Surgery, certified the Training Centre of Hospital da Luz Learning Health in Gynecologic Endoscopy.

After auditing performed in April 26 and 27, Hospital da Luz Learning Health obtained the certification of gynaecologists at the 1st Level of Competence in Gynecologic Endoscopy (Academy Bachelor Certification), as well as the certification of a group of trainers, through the implementation of a specific training program, which counted with the support and recognition of the European Board College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the European Network of Trainers in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and of other international societies and organizations.

This certification includes the training of competences in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, englobing gynaecologists with vast experience in surgical training, as well as simulators similar to those used in the main international training centres.

The Training Centre in Gynecologic Endoscopy from Hospital da Luz Learning Health has as its director António Setúbal, gynaecologist and coordinator of Hospital da Mulher and of the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics of Hospital da Luz Lisboa, and as assistant director the gynaecologist Filipa Osório. The training team comprises the physicians Joana Faria, João Alves, Sónia Barata, Alexandre Ambrósio, Duarte Vilarinho, José Lourenço Reis, Marta Magro and Olga Lavado.

It is worth mentioning that Hospital da Luz Learning Health is dedicated to the advanced training of professionals, translational research and innovation, in the areas of healthcare providing and management. Currently, it comprises the second Training Centre available in Portugal in endoscopic surgery, with two simulators and multiple instruments of laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in permanence. These resources allow the professionals in the area - which have limited opportunities to perform endoscopic interventions during training - to train regularly their competences and enlarge their technical experience, essential to the clinical practice.
