Urologic Surgery at Hospital da Luz Guimarães Presented in Congress

10-11-17

A surgery performed at Hospital da Luz Guimarães by urologist José Preza Fernandes was presented in the Congress of the Portuguese Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery, which took place between 12 and 14 October, in Lisbon.

The surgery, video recorded and showed in the congress, consisted in a laparoscopic nephropexy to a female 33-year-old patient, diagnosed with renal ptosis, a rare disease included in the differential diagnosis of renal colic.

The intervention was made resorting to laparoscopy - a minimally invasive technique with confirmed benefits for patients, since it allows faster post-surgical recovery and return to daily activity. It counted with the participation of urologists Carlos Guimarães and Pedro Passos.

This was the 10th congress of the Portuguese Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery, created in 2006, gathering specialists from all over the world.

This was the first time, in meetings of this society, that a surgery performed at Hospital da Luz Guimarães was presented - this hospital's unit of urology has been differentiating in the surgical treatment through minimally invasive procedures and techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery, with high levels of efficacy and safety.

José Preza Fernandes is an urologist of Hospital da Luz units in Amarante, Cerveira, Porto, Póvoa de Varzim and Vila Real.
