A MONTH of European fashion weeks culminates with the final one in Paris. The French Capital is known as the home of luxury brands and it never disappoints.
Heavy-weights Dior, Balmain, Saint Laurent and Isabel Marant have all shown their wares over the last few days.
All eyes were on Givenchy to see its newest designers interpretations of the acclaimed brand. Clare Waight Keller is the first female designer to take the reigns at Givenchy, following her hugely successful term at Chloe where she made us all want to be one of her #chloegirls.
I was very keen to see how her bohemian spin would work at Givenchy, which has become synonymous with branded sweatshirts of late.
It was as though someone had reminded Waight Keller that super brand Givenchy was once known for dressing Audrey Hepburn and not selling street wear. This, coupled with her midas touch for designing One catwalk and runway to carry, meant the collection was beautiful: knife pleat skirts and fluid shapes, archiveinspired prints with a narrow palette of monochrome, navy and red - so shoppable.
Elsewhere, Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood (aka Westwood's husband) was a massive love-in between the two.
Described as Sexy, Noble, and OTT, it was definitely the latter: handpainted silk dresses with risqué prints, 3D appliqué corsets cinched in with wrestler style belts. But among the mayhem there were wearable dresses and floral silk kimono coats.
VW is way too savvy to ignore the commercial opportunity. It was a spectacle and a very nice tribute from Westwood to her long time collaborator.
