Magellan Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: MGLN) today announced that Dr. Karen Amstutz, Magellan’s chief medical officer, has been appointed to the National Quality Forum’s (NQF) Medicaid Innovator Accelerator Program’s (IAP) Coordinating Committee. The committee is tasked with identifying and recommending measures in four program areas to help support states’ efforts related to payment and delivery system reforms.

The four IAP program areas are:

  • Reducing Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
  • Improving Care for Medicaid Beneficiaries with Complex Care Needs and High Costs (BCN)
  • Promoting Community Integration – Community-Based Long-Term Services and Supports (CI-LTSS)
  • Supporting Physical and Mental Health Integration (PMH)

“I’m honored to serve as a member of this committee and excited to work with my colleagues as we develop key metrics by which state Medicaid programs can measure both quality and cost,” said Amstutz. “The areas with which this group is charged with reviewing align closely with the expertise and experience Magellan Health brings to the market. I look forward to leveraging our collective experience as we seek to raise quality standards for Medicaid members and reign in costs for the state and federal government.”

“NQF’s multi-stakeholder coordinating committee and expert panel members are leading important work to identify measures to support states’ efforts to design and implement Medicaid delivery reforms that improve the health and healthcare for Medicaid beneficiaries,” said Margaret Terry, RN, senior director, NQF. “The Medicaid Innovation Accelerator Program will provide timely guidance on measure sets to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services that address these program areas.”
