Connection of new base stations on the 4G network of Telekom is in progress, enabling 80 percent of the Hungarian population to use the superbly fast mobile internet service by early next year, and 93 percent by the end of 2015.

As commonly known, following the commissioning of frequencies Telekom continued to expand its 4G mobile internet network, and consequently the national, outdoor 4G population coverage of Telekom reached 75 percent by now. Simultaneously, the company also increased the nominal (depending on the tariff package and the terminal) download speed of the 4G mobile net to the available maximum, offering mobile net speeds up to 150 Mbit/s in the first and largest 4G network of Hungary.

In preparation for the future, simultaneously with 4G developments - primarily in order to acquire further experiences - Telekom also activated the LTE Advanced service, therefore at certain points of the market leader's mobile network the technology representing the next phase of 4G is already available in a test environment. The maximal theoretical download speed of the test network is 300 Mbps, currently available in the region of the four corporate sites of the company, in the complete area of Infopark in district 11, as well as in the Telekom head office at Krisztina körút.

In April this year Telekom was the first company in Hungary to test the LTE-Advanced technology with Ericsson, in the company head office at Krisztina körút. At the joint demo of Telekom and Ericsson, using the LTE-Advanced technology the maximum bandwidth achievable with the technology under given conditions was demonstrated by downloading huge data packages and by broadcasting the superb, 4K resolution video produced by a drone (octocopter) flying on location as well as by numerous outdoor, mobile cameras.

Mobile broadband technologies are expected to further develop in the direction of 4G/LTE, as for example by aggregating frequency bands, LTE-Advanced will be capable of offering ever higher data speeds and capacities.
