EMBARGOED UNTIL 4:00 PM IST, Tuesday 20 September

New Delhi: EP100 - a global campaign led by The Climate Group that encourages businesses to double their energy productivity - today announced two new corporate members; Dalmia Cement, one of India's leading cement manufactures, and Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd., India's largest vacation ownership company and the second company from the Mahindra Group to join the campaign.

By joining EP100, Dalmia Cement has publicly committed to double their energy productivity by 2030 from a baseline year of 2010-11, and Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd. has committed to double their energy productivity by 2030 from a baseline year of 2008-09.

Mahendra Singhi, Group CEO of Dalmia Cement, said: 'Today, our group has one of the lowest carbon footprint in the global cement sector and we will continue to find ways to not only reduce our energy use, but also maximize the economic benefit of every unit of energy we consume.
We are targeting to double our energy productivity by various innovative and sustainable ways and means by 2030. Joining EP100 is a natural progression of our corporate vision-which is to be a leader in building materials that evokes pride in all stakeholders through customer centricity, innovation, sustainability and our values.'

Kavinder Singh, MD & CEO of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd., said 'The Mahindra Group has a growing commitment to sustainable business practices that allow us to do good, as we do well. This agreement to double our energy productivity by 2030 also aligns with the larger trend of Indian consumers becoming increasingly aware about the environmental impact, choosing brands that are taking real action to minimize their carbon footprint.'

This announcement was timed to coincide with Climate Week NYC 2016, as global business and policy leaders gather to act on the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals that were agreed last year.

Krishnan Pallassana, India Executive Director at The Climate Group, said: 'The concept of energy productivity is closely aligned to business growth and sustainable development; two critical factors in securing a prosperous future for India. We welcome Dalmia Cements and Mahindra Holidays to the global EP100 campaign, as their leadership will surely inspire many more global corporations to invest in doubling energy productivity.
Having leading Indian businesses - from heavy manufacturing company to hospitality - publicly commit to EP100, shows that whatever the sector or region a business is in, energy productivity is a step all businesses can make and one that makes clear economic sense for them to do.'

It is estimated that if more companies were to adopt energy productivity within their business models, the global fossil fuel bill could be reduced by an estimated €2 trillion (INR 1 crore 52 lakhs crores) and create more than six million jobs globally by 2020.
EP100 is led by The Climate Group in partnership with the Global Alliance for Energy Productivity and is an action of the We Mean Business coalition. The campaign operates in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All).
