Mail.Ru Group supported Pushkin Museum's Project at the Venice Biennale

Mail.Ru Group (international brand My.com) supported the Man as Bird: Images of Journeys exhibition, a project of the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts organized as a part of the 57th Venice Biennale. The exhibition will be held at Palazzo Soranzo Van Axel in Venice from May 13 through September 5, 2017.

Arts practices and technologies are becoming inseparable elements of contemporary art, where the latter can act as an object, subject, and independent media. It is from these various standpoints that 14 artists from different countries represented at the exhibition approach the art and technology as they explore the theme of making journeys and getting to know the world and themselves. Many works were created specifically for the project, taking into account the particular nature of their exhibition space-an old 15th century palazzo.

The close collaboration between Mail.Ru Group and the Pushkin Museum began in 2016, and resulted in two projects: House of Impressions. Classic and Contemporary Media Art and House of Impressions. Wandering with a Troubadour. As a result, this new concept of including the contemporary art into traditional context has evolved into The Pushkin XXI, a new innovative direction of the Museum's activities.

About the Man as Bird: Images of Journeys project

The Man as Bird. Images of Journeys exhibition is the first international project of The Pushkin XXI platform. It explores the issues of new discoveries at the intersection of optics and art in the spheres that are united by aspiration of humans to get to know the world and their place in it. Throughout the history, people tried to push the boundaries of the visible and find new angles of vision by traveling to far corners of the world and improving the way of seeing it. This path can be compared with the internal transformation experienced by each person throughout life.

About The Pushkin XXI

Since 2014, the Pushkin Museum began to implement its new development concept which, among other things, is aimed at attracting new visitors by including contemporary art into traditional museum context. Over this time, more than 15 exhibition projects representing the art of contemporary artists and accompanied by conferences and lectures have been held at various venues of the Museum.

In 2017, the Museum starts The Pushkin XXI, a new direction of its activities.

The Pushkin XXI is an innovative idea that combines all forms of presentation used in the contemporary art into a dialog: from painting and sculpture to virtual reality and video art. The Pushkin XXI is a museum in a museum. This contemporary idea combines educational, research and exhibition activities, which will reveal the evolution of an artistic image from traditional methods to modern technologies. The Pushkin XXI collection will be based on the works of Russian and international artists participating in the exhibition projects, as well as works created specifically for the Museum.
