Manulife Life Insurance Company ("Manulife Japan") will commence the sale of single premium whole life insurance with currency options through the Aozora Bank, Ltd. on February 16.

This product offers a flexible estate planning solution to customers. It provides an amount exceeding the premium paid in the event of death or total and permanent disability, allowing them to leave as much for their families as possible when they pass away. Currency options also give the benefit of attractive interest rates, as well as a choice of currencies to make premium payments. Interest rates and death benefits are all guaranteed for the life of the customer's policy, offering peace of mind to customers through a simple and easy-to-understand product structure.

Special characteristics of the new product

1.    Insurance that can be used for leaving assets behind

  • The basic benefit1 forming the basis of payment in the event of death or total permanent disability exceeds the single premium paid by the customer.
  • The basic benefit is guaranteed at the time of issue for the life of the policy.2
  • A customer may select from among US dollar, Australian dollar, or Japanese yen for the policy's currency, which will define the amount of death benefit to be paid.
  • If the policy's currency is set as either US dollar or Australian dollar, customers may select from a variety of currencies (five  currencies are acceptable: Japanese yen, US dollar, Australian dollar, Euro, or New Zealand dollar) to make premium payments, allowing them to use foreign currency they may already have in their possession.

 2.    Simple self-disclosure method

  • Applications can be processed using a simple, easy-to-understand, two-step self-disclosure.3

 3.    Health consultation and other value-added services

  • Customers have access to "Mental and Physical Health Support and Medical Relief,"4 a value-added service offered by T-PEC Corporation, a partner of Manulife Japan. This is a service that provides consultations on methods for resolving day-to-day illnesses or injuries and allows customers to receive a second opinion from some of Japan's leading doctors (general consulting physicians).
