BOSTON, MA - Signator Investors, Inc., powered by John Hancock Financial Network (JHFN), is offering its advisors a simplified continuity agreement that can be implemented between advisors or between an advisor and the firm.

The agreement is designed to provide monetary value to an advisor's beneficiary in the event of his or her untimely death, as well as a plan designed to ensure ongoing service to the advisor's clients.

Two payment options are available with the agreement:

  • Fixed payment - a fixed amount of money payable to the beneficiary in either a lump sum payment or series of payments made on an annual, quarterly or monthly basis over a period not to exceed three years
  • Earn out - a percentage of recurring advisor revenue paid to the beneficiary for a defined period of time not to exceed three years

"Each advisor puts in countless hours of work on the business and client relationships, not to mention their heart and soul, and we felt a continuity plan, protecting their families and their clients would be of real peace of mind," said Matthew Rigatti, vice president, Signator Investors, Inc. "As an independent broker dealer, Signator has one of the most robust comprehensive equity and succession plans, and we feel starting with the simplified continuity plan could get them energized to take advantage of the entire program as their practice grows."

This continuity plan is one of the four steps in Signator's Build4Success Equity and Succession program that provides advisors the ability to determine, protect, grow, and realize the value of their business. In addition to providing the continuity agreement, Signator is helping its advisors value their practices and is identifying potential successors inside and outside the network.

"While advisors understand the importance of putting a continuity plan in place to protect their business and provide value to their families, we found many kept putting it off," said Malcolm Thomas, director, Signator Investors, Inc. Recruiting. "By helping them take care of that important first step toward a complete equity and succession plan, we hope it shows that we're doing what we can to provide the resources that help our advisors take care of their practices."
