All proceeds from the event will go to Matilda’s favorite charity, North Shore Animal League America, with a minimum entrance fee of $25.00. Guests are also encouraged to adopt a pet from the Animal League mobile Adoption Unit, which will be parked in front of the hotel on the day of event from 3 PM to 7 PM. Each pet adopted will be sent home with a $50.00 Sturdi gift certificate donated through the kindness of Sturdi products.

Additionally, a one-of-a-kind portrait of Matilda by local artist Jenny Belin will be auctioned with all proceeds benefiting North Shore Animal League America.

The tradition of having a resident pet at The Algonquin began in the 1930s when a straggly stray cat wandered in through the hotel’s front door looking for food and shelter. Owner Frank Case, the consummate host most famous for inviting Dorothy Parker and her friends to form the legendary Algonquin Round Table in the hotel’s dining room in the ‘20s, welcomed the cat as he did every other guest, and a tradition was born.

Matilda III prepares for her debut after being personally chosen at the North Shore Animal League America by the now-contentedly retired Matilda II. Matilda III eagerly awaits her introduction to the public and is fully prepared to assume her role in a storied Algonquin tradition.

She can be contacted directly by email at matildaalgonquincat@algonquinhotel.com and can be followed on Twitter @Algonqueen.  Her face book fan page is Matilda – The Algonquin Cat.

ABOUT THE ALONGQUIN HOTEL, AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION

A New York City landmark recently named to the National Trust Historic Hotels of America, the Algonquin Hotel is located in the heart of midtown Manhattan at 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, just steps from Broadway’s Theatres and world-class shopping. Home to Dorothy Parker’s famous Round Table and birthplace of the New Yorker magazine, the Algonquin Hotel is highly regarded by travelers the world over. The recent $4.5 million renovation effort focused on refreshing the hotel lobby, upgrading all guest rooms, laying new guestroom carpet and introducing new bedding to the 174-guestroom hotel – creating a new era of elegance at the historically significant hotel. The hotel’s popular Oak Room, which has showcased musical talents such as Harry Connick, Jr., Andrea Marcovicci, Diana Krall and Peter Cincotti, serves dinner and offers cabaret performances Tuesday through Saturday. The legendary Algonquin Round Table of the 1920s is the inspiration for the current Round Table Room serving traditional American cuisine breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Blue Bar and Lobby also serve cocktails and other beverages throughout the day. The hotel features a fully-equipped fitness center and five meeting and function rooms, which can accommodate groups from 10 to 175.
