Industrial hemp and marijuana are both in the cannabis genus. The difference between the two plants are the levels of naturally occurring cannabinoids. Marijuana is cultivated for an abundant amount of the cannabinoid THC. Quite the opposite in industrial hemp, THC is virtually non-existent and, therefore, cannot produce a psychotropic effect as its cousin plant can. This distinction has been noted as "low THC cannabis" in recent news. When it comes to legalized cannabis use, there are 39 states, districts and territories with cannabis laws on the books: 25 with medical or recreational marijuana plus 14 states with "low THC cannabis."

Lone Star State's Limited Bill
Meanwhile, the Texas House gave final approval Tuesday to what the media's calling a "limited" medical marijuana bill that would give residents access to CBD oil that only contains trace amounts of THC. The legislation now hits Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's desk – a development that some experts are calling history.
The Republican hasn't said whether he will sign the very high-profile measure.
