MERSEN-A PARTNER ON THE SUCCESSFUL PERÚSAT-1 SATELLITE PROJECT PARIS, NOVEMBER 16, 2016 - Mersen (Euronext FR0000039620 - MRN), a global expert in electrical power and advanced materials, is announcing its contribution to Airbus Defence and Space's latest success. The PerúSAT-1 satellite has just delivered its first images following its September launch.The satellite was completed in a record time of less than 24 months. The structure and mirrors of its optical instrument were manufactured entirely in silicon carbide (SiC) by harnessing Mersen's expertise. This lightweight, robust, stable ceramic that can withstand temperature changes is a popular choice for space telescopes because it provides unmatched thermoelastic stability.
This success is testimony to Mersen's proven expertise in advanced materials. The Group has supplied components for 17 telescopes already in space.
About PerúSAT-1:
A very high resolution Earth observation satellite designed and developed by Airbus Defence and Space on behalf of the Peruvian Space Agency CONIDA, PerúSAT-1 is Latin America's most powerful Earth observation satellite.
The images produced by the satellite, with a resolution of up to 70cm, will be used for an array of different purposes including agriculture, urban planning, border monitoring, the fight against illegal drug trafficking, humanitarian rescue operations and the evaluation of natural catastrophes.
