Wuhan Surveying-Geotechnical Research Institute Co. of MCC Group (WSGRI) was awarded with the bidding for the Geotechnical Engineering Investigation & Surveying Contract of Mirador Copper Mine in Ecuador on May 24, 2013. This is the ever largest project of such kind contracted by WSGRI, with an annual output of 20 million tons.
Mirador Copper Mine is located about 340 km to the south of Quito (the capital of Ecuador) and 70 km to the southeast of Cuenca (the third largest city of Ecuador). The employer of this project is Corriente Resources Inc., and all the investment is to be made by ECSA. As the first large-sized modern mine, it is anticipated to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2016.
This Contract consists of the 1st phase surveying works for four areas, namely QUIMI tailings pond, the acid water reservoir, the refuse dump and No. 1 mountain road. The prospecting scope covers an area of 40 square kilometers, with regional altitudes of 800-1500 meters. This project is featured by large prospecting area, many surveying items, complicated stratum, rich ground and surface water. To smoothly undertake this project, quite a few difficult problems must be resolved in advance, for instance, the stability and permeability of the project site, as well as the prediction on its development trend.
