On November 24th, the third subsidiary of MCC Baosteel Technology Services Co., Ltd succeeded in undertaking the energy saving and technological upgrading project for the laminar cooling system of the 1580 hot rolling plant of Baosteel.
The cooling system of the project is located between the finishing mill and the recoiling machine and its main function is to precisely cool strip steel by means of intensive water spraying so that the surface temperature of the steel can be ensured to be lower than the critical temperature for crystal structure change. The steel thus produced can meet requirements of the working condition of recoiling machines and ensure the high quality of strip coils. The technological upgrading project is scheduled to commence at the beginning of 2015 and to be completed as a whole by the end of next June. By the project, the plant plans to solve the current problem of electricity wasting. The key point for the project is to upgrade the water supply pump of the system and the supporting pipelines. In addition, two sets of high-voltage inverters with the working voltage of 6000 volts and two sets of manual shifters for cooling water pumps will be installed, so that any two of the laminar cooling water pumps can operate in the mode of variable frequency while the remaining pumps can be operated manually based on the production requirements, thus electricity wasting as a result of pump malfunction in the non-rolling state eliminated. Comparing with that before technological upgrade, the energy utilization rate of the upgraded system will increase by 43% and about RMB 1.4 million will be saved each year due to decrease of electricity cost.
