METLIFE TO REDEEM 5.875% SENIOR NOTES DUE ON NOVEMBER 21, 2033

NEW YORK, April 4, 2014 - MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) announced today that it will redeem all of its outstanding 5.875% Senior Notes due Nov. 21, 2033 (CUSIP No. 59156R405) (NYSE: MLG) (the Notes) on May 5, 2014 (the Redemption Date). On the Redemption Date, a redemption price of 100 percent of the principal amount of the Notes, or $25 per each $25 Note, plus accrued and unpaid interest from, and including March 31, 2014, to, but excluding, the Redemption Date, will be payable by MetLife, Inc. to the holders on the Redemption Date. As of April 4, 2014, $200 million aggregate principal amount of the Notes were outstanding.

The Notes are held only in book-entry form through The Depository Trust Company (DTC). DTC will redeem the Notes in accordance with its procedures and notify the holders. Holders of the Notes need not take any action to receive payment of the redemption price.

This news release does not constitute a notice of redemption of the Notes. Holders of the Notes should refer to the notice of redemption to be delivered to the registered holders of the Notes by The Bank of New York Mellon Trust Company, N.A., the trustee with respect to the Notes.
