The ViaMichelin website and mobile applications are set to
change in the days ahead because of a new French decree,
issued on January 4, 2012, which forbids motorists from
owning, carrying or using any devices that warn them about
speed traps. Consequently, road maps and travel itineraries
will no longer give the specific location of fixed speed
cameras but instead indicate dangerous road sections. These
new areas, identified by French authorities, will be shown
on Michelin maps and applications as soon as possible.
Michelin is providing users of ViaMichelin GPS systems with
instructions on how to deactivate the radar function in
their portable navigation equipment. The deactivation
procedure is described in detail on the French version of
the website in the support produit section. In addition, it
is no longer possible to download any radar locations from
the website. Users of ViaMichelin GPS services have also
been instructed to remove the navigation software that
indicates the position of fixed speed cameras in France and
to deactivate the radar voice alert option when driving in
the country.
Michelin 2012 road maps: staying a step ahead of the
competition on safety
During the annual update of its maps and atlases, Michelin
anticipated the new legislation by reorganizing the road
safety features on its printed maps to include safety
alerts. All road sections requiring special attention, such
as steep gradients and difficult or dangerous sections, are
now indicated with an exclamation mark (!) pictogram.
In this way, Michelin is providing motorists with a
complete, updated collection of maps that are aligned with
the new legislation. The online catalogue of maps and
atlases can be found at .
