Johannesburg, South Africa, March 25, 2016 - Mimecast Limited (NASDAQ: MIME), a leading email and data security company, will attend this year's Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC), taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center March 29 - 31 . Mimecast's Giulio Magni will be showcasing how the company protects customers against advanced spear-phishing and whaling attacks with its Targeted Threat Protection service.

GISEC is the region's only dedicated, large-scale IT security event that connects international and regional companies with senior buyers from core industries. GISEC 2016 promises to be bigger than ever, with more partners, sponsors and exhibitors.

'As the leading IT security event of the calendar year in the region, GISEC is the best place to share views on trends in information technology and security. Mimecast is looking forward to participating in such a prestigious event,' said Giulio Magni, senior sales engineer, Mimecast.

At the event, Magni will be addressing the growing need for organizations to adopt comprehensive spear-phishing protection. 'Organizations and their employees are targets for sophisticated email attacks every day, and new technology needs to be put in place to ensure data and corporate IT infrastructure are kept safe. Our own research showed that whaling attacks alone grew by 55% at the end of 2015,' he continued.

GISEC attendees can visit the Mimecast booth between 10h00 and 17h00, Tuesday through Thursday where the company will be showcasing its Targeted Threat Protection service. This service extends defenses beyond traditional gateway security to protect against spear-phishing and specifically, attacks using malicious links and attachments in emails as well as whaling or CEO fraud.

According to Mimecast research conducted in December 2015:

  • 55% of organizations have seen an increase in the volume of whaling attacks over the last three months.
  • Most whaling attacks pretend to be the CEO (72%), while 35% had seen whaling emails attributed to the CFO.
